The Aam Aadmi Budget: VAT on snacks, footwear trimmed to 5%

The Aam Admi Party announced their second Budget for Delhi on Monday, where-in the total Budget outlay for this financial year is at Rs 46,600 crore.
The major announcements made by Delhi Finance Minister Manish Sisodia includes allotment of Rs 10,690 crore for the education sector. With this, approximately one fourth of the Budget outlay has been reserved for the education sector.

Further, fund amount of Rs 1,600 crore have been set aside for the subsidy in electricity bills.

Taking clues from Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalitha's books, the Arvind Kejriwal led government, has alloted Rs 10 crores for Aam Aadmi canteen.

Further, the budget plans to provide drinking water through pipeline in every Delhi colony by December 2017 for which Rs 676 crore have been reserved.

In addition, there is a relief for Delhiites on the value-added tax (VAT) front, where VAT on sweets, snacks, readymade cloths and footwear have been reduced to 5 percent from 12.5 percent.
